Big Penny is a community and event hospitality company based in Walthamstow. Our flagship venue, Big Penny Social, embodies everything we are about. It’s a pub, arts centre and town square rolled into one - a huge building that brings friends, family and the community together. Open every day for a pint or a pizza, there’s always something going on thanks to our programme of entertainment and events; from markets to comedy, live music, parties, and everything in between. We’re growing with exciting plans for expansion in 2025!
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for a highly creative, hands-on Brand and Marketing leader to join our team as Head of Brand & Marketing at Big Penny. You'll shape our story during an exciting period of growth, heading marketing strategies across all areas of the business – including events programming, our incredible range of food and drinks, all our venues and the launch of exciting new projects such as the two new spaces we’re opening at BPS in 2025. As well as leading our small but talented marketing team, this role combines creative leadership with data-driven decision-making to develop venue awareness, increase guest visits and enhance community engagement.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement our marketing & brand strategies, ensuring they reflect Big Penny's unique voice and mission
- Create and manage marketing budgets that make every penny count
- Build measurement frameworks to track our success and guide future decisions
Marketing & Communications
- Direct and deliver multichannel marketing campaigns that bring to life our brand, venues and diverse programme of events
- Lead and develop our content strategy across digital platforms, including website and social media
- Develop and maintain our tone of voice, ensuring that it’s consistent in all communications.
Ensure the team nurtures relationships with media partners and creative collaborators
Brand Management
- Develop Big Penny's brand identity, ensuring it remains unique, authentic and consistent
- Create compelling storytelling that celebrates our work and illustrates our role in the community
- Maintain and progress our brand guidelines that keep us consistent but not rigid
Managing the Team
- Line manages the marketing manager and social media manager
- Develop and manage a pool of agencies and freelancers
Venue & Product Marketing
- Lead the marketing strategy for our different revenue streams, including events, F&B, and private hire.
- Oversee the launch campaign for our new Games Hall (April 2025) followed by the new events space (Summer ’26)
- Develop in-venue marketing materials that enhance the guest experience and drive sales
Private Hire Marketing in support of the sales team to
- Build awareness of our spaces among key target agencies
- Develop sector-specific marketing campaigns for different types of private hire clients
- Create compelling content showcasing our spaces' versatility and unique features

- Bringing more guests to Big Penny Social, visiting more regularly

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE
- 7+ years of creative brand and marketing experience, including team leadership
- Proven track record in developing and executing strong and unique brands
- Omnichannel marketing experience across all platforms
- Experience in hospitality, venue, culture or entertainment marketing preferable
- Strong understanding of digital marketing and analytics
- Understanding of the competitive socialising sector is a plus
- Experience managing marketing budgets and small teams

- A natural storyteller with excellent communication skills
- Strategic thinker who can also roll up their sleeves
- Strong project management abilities
- Ability to manage creative process through a combination of internal and external resources
- Experienced in working with external agencies
- Expertise in both B2C and B2B marketing
- Understanding of London's hospitality and events landscape
THE PACKAGE
A competitive package is on offer for the right candidate with a pro-rated benefits of an annual salary of up to £65,000 dependent on experience, plus pension contributions as well as a discretionary annual bonus, 20 days holiday, flexible working, enhanced parental leave and a wide variety of diverse community events in which you can get involved every day
WORKING HOURS
Standard office days are Monday to Friday, with one day per week permitted to work from home (excluding Thursdays). Occasionally, you may be required to work the odd evening or weekend to meet your areas of responsibility, and we recognise that this flexibility may be required both ways. Any hours worked outside regular hours will be given back in Time of in Lieu.
