Big Penny Social is a beer hall and event space in Blackhorse Lane near Walthamstow which showcases the best local beer, food and creators.

The food and drink menu focuses on seasonal ingredients, headlined by a rotating selection of beers, sourdough pizzas and Sunday roasts. We focus on working with brilliant local suppliers and have a big range of guest beers sourced from the best independent breweries in London and beyond. Our suppliers share our values in supporting local communities, businesses and the environment.

The opportunity for this venue is BIG and we are now looking for an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to support the Head Chef leading the culinary team of this amazing venue. You’ll be joining a passionate, fun, committed and collaborative team, and you will have opportunity to growing along.

The role:

  • Deliver a brilliant food experience to every guest
  • Maintain excellent high standards
  • Oversee and supervises kitchen staff
  • Assists with inventory, management and ordering of supplies
  • Ensure Health & Safety standards are maintained at all times
  • Support curating our food menu to ensure they are enticing, interesting and evolve with changing tastes
  • Develop and grow our team by training, motivating, developing and supporting them
  • Work closely with other teams in the business to ensure that operationally we deliver great events and experiences (Front of House, events, etc.)
  • Continuously improve our operations – reviewing guest feedback, spotting areas we can improve, seeking feedback from other team members

About you:

  • A Sous Chef in the hospitality sector with experience managing a team of 5+ people
  • Passionate about delivering amazing food experiences consistently
  • Experienced in being part of team which is developing and supporting team members
  • Entrepreneurial approach to spot opportunities to improve our menu and elevate the guest experience, drive sales, and reduce costs
  • Confident communicator used to collaborating with multiple teams in a fast changing environment (bar, events, marketing etc.)
  • Have a passion for food and drink and experience working closely with a Head Chef
  • Enjoys an environment where no day two days are the same, multi-tasking and prioritizing
